Plan a helicopter-assisted ski experience in Svaneti as a single heli drop or a full heli day, arranged through our partner. Choose the single drop for a shorter addition to an existing Svaneti stay. Choose the full day when you want to discuss repeated flight-supported skiing. Both depend on the group's experience and operating conditions. The reference figures describe the partner proposal, not a guaranteed flight schedule for every date.

A single drop is one helicopter-assisted ascent or access, followed by the agreed mountain outing. The partner's example involves roughly 15–20 minutes of flying to terrain around 3,400 metres, with a possible descent of approximately 1,900 vertical metres and around one to one-and-a-half hours of riding. These figures belong to a route example, not every available drop. Actual altitude, timing and descent depend on the selected route and conditions.

It should not be interpreted as an unlimited heli day, a private aircraft charter or an automatically included accommodation package. The duration of a flight is also different from the time you spend skiing, preparing equipment or travelling to and from the departure point.

For this format, the connections around the flight matter. Know where you meet the team, how you reach the departure point and where the ski outing finishes. The return arrangement after the descent should be explicit: a flight to a mountain and the journey back to your accommodation are not necessarily the same service.

You also need to understand what the quoted flight covers. A duration shown in an unrelated programme does not define your allowance, and a description of one previous descent does not establish what is available for your date.

If the single drop is part of a longer ski holiday, leave the relationship between the bookings clear. A change to the flight does not automatically change your hotel, other guided days or travel arrangements. The proposal should explain how those separate elements are handled.

The partner's full-day programme is based on multiple drops and four hours of helicopter operating time for a 12-person booking arrangement. Those hours are shared across the operation; they are not a personal flight allowance for each participant. The number of people booked for the day is also not the passenger capacity of one flight.

The written proposal must explain how the group is divided into rotations, which flying counts against the allowance and what happens if the planned flying cannot be completed. A headline number of hours is only useful when its accounting is clear. Additional flying can be discussed separately and agreed before it is undertaken.

Think of the day in three parts. Before flying, the team establishes the plan and the arrangements for the group. During the operating window, the flights and descents follow the conditions and the agreed allowance. At the end, you return according to the confirmed ground and flight arrangements. It is not a timetable that promises progressively steeper terrain or an uninterrupted series of runs.

Accommodation, meals, ground transfers and supplied equipment should each be stated in the offer. The flight programme should not be read as an all-inclusive multi-day holiday. The aircraft, passenger arrangement and operating details for your date should be confirmed in the proposal.

A model name is useful information, but it is not a guarantee about a particular landing, load or weather window. Those are operational decisions. We do not describe any aircraft as making an otherwise unsuitable mountain day safe.

You need confident off-piste skiing or snowboarding in variable snow and fitness appropriate to the planned descent. A helicopter can remove a large part of the ascent, but it does not remove the demands of riding in mountain terrain.

Describe your recent experience clearly. Useful information includes where you last rode off-piste, whether you have taken guided trips, the snow and terrain you are comfortable with, and any avalanche education. For a group, give that information for the least experienced rider as well as the strongest.

If you are new to off-piste skiing, start by discussing lessons or an appropriate freeride outing. Heliskiing should not be selected on the assumption that the aircraft makes the skiing easier.

Mestia is the base for this Svaneti enquiry. The valleys and mountains around the town provide the regional setting, but this page does not advertise a fixed network of guaranteed landing sites.

The actual operation must be agreed for the date and conditions. This is a Svaneti proposal, not a transfer of an itinerary from another Georgian ski region.

Bring familiar ski or snowboard boots, suitable personal winter clothing, helmet, eye protection, gloves and sun protection. Discuss rental needs early enough to confirm the correct equipment and fit.

The supplied and personal equipment lists should be separate. If an airbag backpack or other specialist item is proposed, confirm the exact arrangement rather than assuming that every heli programme uses the same equipment. When travelling with specialist equipment, check the airline's own carriage requirements for the item you will bring.

Avalanche equipment remains relevant on a helicopter-accessed outing. Training and the ability to use the equipment cannot be replaced by the fact that transport is organised. Weather, visibility, snow and operational constraints can change the plan or prevent a flight. Neither a single drop nor a full heli day is a guarantee that the planned flying will take place regardless of those conditions.

If weather prevents the planned heli activity, the booking is recalculated and alternatives are proposed. These can include catskiing, ski touring or resort skiing, depending on conditions and availability. The proposal should explain the treatment of unused services and the cost of the agreed alternative. Recalculation does not mean that every cancellation leads to an automatic full refund or that all replacement activities are free.

Alternatives may be worth discussing, but they have their own conditions and availability. Catskiing, freeride and ski touring are not universally available substitutes. Any change needs an agreed plan and a clear explanation of its cost implications.

For either format, establish the flight operator and arrangements, the guiding, passenger plan, equipment, meeting point and return logistics. If heli is part of a longer stay, also establish the accommodation nights, room arrangement, meals and the start and finish of any included transfers.

Ask for a clear description of the flight allowance and how additional flying is authorised. Separate those operational details from the trip duration so that you know exactly what you are comparing.

Travel cover also needs attention. Ask your insurer about the actual planned activity and any altitude, rescue or helicopter-related conditions. A policy described broadly as winter sports cover should not be assumed to cover every helicopter-assisted mountain activity.

Choose one drop or a full day, or ask for a bespoke five-day programme, then send your dates, group size, experience and equipment needs. Mention your arrival point and whether accommodation is already booked. If your dates can move, say so; it helps distinguish a short fixed-date request from a more flexible stay.

I also took part in heliskiing. From the air, Svaneti reveals itself differently: what look like separate slopes from below become one vast mountain landscape. But for me, the story does not end with a beautiful flight.

The film material includes landings and a line of people on a ridge. Those moments capture what I want to remember: after taking in the scale of the mountains, your attention returns to the small group and the descent ahead. The helicopter changes how you get up there; the time in the mountains remains the point.

I would choose heliskiing for that whole experience, not simply to tick off a flight. A single drop and a full heli day are different formats. Start with how much time you have and your riding experience; discuss the flight programme and weather alternatives in advance.
