Shdugra Waterfall Hike

A full day in the Becho valley under the twin summits of Ushba — forest trails and mountain streams to the Shdugra Waterfall, one of the tallest in the region. About 8 km, 5 hours.

The place

Overview

Forest, streams and a fall under Ushba.

A transfer from Mestia to Mazeri village starts the day. The trail climbs through forest and crosses streams up the valley, with Ushba (4,710 m) filling the skyline, to the base of the Shdugra falls.

The walking is moderate with some rocky sections near the falls. A shorter option turns back at the Hikers’ Inn viewpoint. Good shoes and a normal level of fitness are enough; the guide sets the pace.

The Shdugra Waterfall hike in the Becho valley

The Shdugra Waterfall hike leads through the beautiful Becho valley to one of the tallest waterfalls in Georgia, tumbling from the glaciers beneath Mount Ushba. It is a scenic, moderate day walk with the twin peaks of Ushba — the 'Matterhorn of the Caucasus' — dominating the skyline throughout.

The trail follows the valley through meadows and forest to the base of the falls, where meltwater fans down the cliffs. Adventurous walkers can continue toward the Ushba glacier viewpoints. We guide it at your pace with the history and geology along the way.

Good to know

A moderate day; the Becho valley is a short transfer from Mestia. Great for combining with other day hikes or a paragliding flight over the region.
